Procedure
1. FiIl half flask with rice. 2. Place a nut inside the flask. 3. Move the flask until the nut is under the rice. (this can be achieved by a flask continuous rotation) 4. Shake the flask on a table. The flask should be in permanent contact with the table surface. (don't shake up and down. Don´t cheat!) 5. Continue to shake it until the nut appears in the surface. (if the nut doesn't appear after some time of agitation, it is because you have to much rice in the flask) |

Why?
When the flask is inverted, placing the nut in the base of it, the grains of rice assume random positions in the flask. As the flask is shaken, the space between the rice is being organized, reducing the empty spaces to each other. With its higher weight, the nut will be used as a "down compressor" of the rice pulling it down. With more and more rice grains under the nut, this is rising and rising, until it arrives to the surface in the end of a certain time. |
